Sure, MBA grads get hired. And their starting salary is usually higher. But after that they face the same on-the-job challenges as anybody else. And sometimes with a bit of a handicap.

You see, today's MBA programs are under fire. For being so far removed from the reality of the business world that the value of an MBA degree is questioned in the media a lot. So that gets people asking some hard questions about the high cost of higher education. And whether or not it's worth the investment.

The Deans of these business schools, like Professor Glenn Hubbard, Dean of the Columbia Business School for example, have to work pretty darn hard to defend the value of their MBA programs. And not everybody is buying what they are selling! But none of this needs to affect YOU! Ever. Let me tell you why.

Once you get hired, and know what to do next and exactly how to do it, and do it with the right mindset, there is absolutely nothing that can hold you back!

Having an MBA degree is great but it's no guarantee of anything ¡ªexcept maybe having big debts from all the school loans that have to be paid off once you start working.

I meet people with college and MBA degrees all the time who don't do nearly as well as they expect to once they get hired! (Of course, my own students don't fall into this category but I'll get to them in a minute.)

More importantly, NOT having an MBA (or some other big college degree or professional designation) DOES NOT MEAN you can't have an absolutely amazing career. Because, once you snag the all-important first job, all bets are off!

Everything that happens to you from your first day on the job depends more on how well you play the game than on where or even how long you went to school. Or how many letters follow your name.

You might be tempted to believe successful people with great careers are just lucky. Let me tell you right now there is no such thing as luck. This is so important I'll say it again... there is no such thing as luck!

There is only preparation meeting opportunity.

Which brings me to a very important question for you¡­

What are YOU doing right now to guarantee you get the most bang for your buck having spent a lot of time and money on your education?

Since then I've had an incredible, fantastic career. I grew up in poverty and didn't have family connections to draw on. I don't have a university degree. But I did learn the success mindset and I had (and still have) great mentors myself. I had a lot of dreams. Dreams with deadlines. We call these goals. When opportunities came, I recognized them and I was prepared to take them on. Of course, some of these came disguised as obstacles.

In my career, I've mastered six professional management disciplines, winning awards in several of them. It's really been a blast. I can do anything I want. Work when I want. For any client I choose. Why the typical advice about resumes is wrong and keeping you off the short list of candidates being selected for interviews. The single, most important question you have to get the answer to at the start of any job interview, before you begin talking about yourself. If you really want the job, it's a must to know this. Miss this and odds are you'll just be wasting your time and theirs.

(I even teach you how and why to ask it and how to respond to the interviewer's questions depending on the answer.)

How to take control of your job interview. Did you know the hiring decision is made in the first 4 minutes of an interview? It's true. Starting a New Job

There are 3 critical things a new employee must do on Day 1 to set the stage for everything that happens from Day 2 forward. Most people don't know what they are. Do you? (My students do.)

Mastering 10 key behaviors is necessary to be successful in any company, in any environment. The rules for these behaviors are unspoken, so not knowing what they are is pretty much guaranteed to keep you from getting ahead in business. (You're probably violating at least some of these rules right now.)

The unwritten "code of conduct" has 4 rules that, if broken, permanently seal your fate. About 80% of your co-workers violate at least one of these things on a regular basis, so following their lead is definitely not a good success plan. (I'll tell you what is.)
Working (in general)

Why time management does NOT exist. You need to stop kidding yourself about this. You'll just be spinning your wheels if you buy into such insanity.

One statement, commonly used to close email and end your telephone conversations when a "next action" is involved, has the opposite effect of what you intend because this innocent 3-letter word is mindlessly included.

(Chances are good you are guilty of this; your boss likely is too.)

People Management (in general)

How to get anyone to do anything you want done or give you anything you need (this strategy works for family and friends too).

What to say when you want to squash another person's ideas or suggestions without making a lifetime enemy (actually, this one has a lot of off-the-job applications also).
